Managing Oneself
We live in an age full of opportunities: If you are smart enough, and have got ambition and keep pushing forward, you can rise to the top of your chosen profession, no matter where you started out.But with opportunity comes responsibility. Companies today aren' t managing their employees' careers. Professional workers must be their own chief executive officers (CEO) . It' s up to you to strive for your place, to keep yourself engaged and productive during a working life that may last around 50 years. To do those things well, you' ll need to have a deep understanding of yourself — not only what your strengths and weaknesses are, but also how you learn, how you work with others, what your values are, and where you can make the greatest contribution, because only when you operate from strength can you achieve true excellence.
History' s great achievers — Napoléon, da Vinci, and Mozart — have always managed themselves. But they are so unusual both in their talents and in their accomplishments as to be considered rare exceptions. Now, most of us, even those of us with modest talents, will have to learn to manage ourselves. We will have to learn to develop ourselves. We will have to place ourselves where we can make the greatest contribution. And we will have to stay mentally alert and engaged during a 50-year working life, which means knowing how and when to change the work we do.
句子正确选择下拉选项框为“T”; 句子错误选择下拉选项框为“F”。
(1)Companies today are responsible for employee' s career.
(2) It is the CEO who decides your place.
(3) You need to understand your company well so that you can do things well.

How to Handle a Bad Performance Review
Getting a bad performance review can make you feel angry, unappreciated, defeated, and hopeless. But it's not the end of the world. Remember that the way you respond to this appraisal can make all the difference in the next one. Even if you believe that the review is inaccurate and that your boss is completely wrong, you will benefit by reacting in a mature, adult manner.  Here are some suggestions:
Stay calm. Relax. Breathe. Do not overreact and be objective. Especially, do not say things that will likely be regretted later. Besides, the person giving the performance review may or may not be the one who has written the bad review.
What to Do When Receiving a Bad Performance Review
It's best to listen attentively. And make comments or remarks only when asked for them.  Besides, during the performance review, you will be given the chance to respond and may disagree.
What to Do After Receiving a Bad Performance Review
Don't be intimidated by the bad performance review and want to quit the job; instead, learn from it. Also, if the organization allows their employees to make a written statement on their own behalf, do make one. It is important for the worker to show why she does not agree with the bed performance review; for instance, an employee may express their different understanding and, at the same time, a willingness to comply with any constructive suggestions.
Ways to Improve a Bad Performance Review
A way to improve a bad performance review is to set self-reviews, that is, establish performance standards. Another way to improve a bad review is to learn more about what the manager, supervisor, or boss wants or expects from his/her employees. I went to a Catholic boys school in Blackpool in the North of England. In my first year in the senior school I was a nerdy kid, with spectacles and short trousers. For one hour a week the class had elocution lessons from an old, portly teacher called Mr. Priestley. He had a hard task wrestling with our flat northern vowels and trying to get us to speak the Queen’s English. One day he came up to me and said, "Sloane, I want to put you in for a speaking festival." "Why me " I grumbled. "Because I think you can do it," was his reply. I had to learn to recite a poem. It was "Play up, Play up and Play the game" by Sir Henry Newbolt, a classic motivational poem ringing with the heroic values of the British Empire. I had to practise it in front of the class, which was rather embarrassing; especially when dear old Mr. Priestly said, "That’s good but you need to pause and to put feeling and emotion into it." Eleven year old boys are unwilling to express feelings. The Saturday of the festival came and I went there on the bus (my parents never had a ear). I gave it my best shot but there were other children there who were more polished or experienced than I was and they scooped all the prizes. So I had to return to school on Monday and tell Mr. Priestley and the class that I had not won. I was then, and still am, very competitive so it felt like a failure to me. We did not have Mr. Priestley again after that year and I never thanked him for that intervention. It is too late to do so now. In my work I go around the world giving keynote talks on leadership and innovation and I often address large, prestigious audiences. Part of the reason that I can do that is because one teacher took the initiative and gave me a challenge. He asked me to do something I had never done and helped me to learn how to do it. Education is not about league tables or exam results. It is about opening doors for people and showing them rooms that that would otherwise be hidden. If we can challenge children to try things and to learn what they can achieve then maybe one day we will be remembered with the gratitude that I hold for Mr. Priestley.Mr. Priestley wanted the author to take part in the festival most probably because ().

A、the author was the best in class

B、the author didn’t have confidence in himself

C、the author wasn’t good at expressing himself

D、the author needed to be motivated
